GFP-Actin mice were a generous gift to our laboratory from Professor
A. Matus, Friedrich
Miescher Institute, Switzerland. These animals carry constructs
of mouse gamma-actin fused to a red-shifted variant of Aequorea
victoria Green Fluorescent Protein randomly inserted into their
genomes. Our logo is an unfixed, live oocyte from one of these mice.
They exhibit GFP fluorescence that is part cytoplasmic and part
cytoskeletal. The image we have chosen shows an ovulated oocyte
with its polar body.
